Description
A classic 1979-80 Topps hockey card titled '1979-80 ENTRIES' featuring the logos of the four teams that merged from the WHA to the NHL. The card features the light blue border typical of the 1979 Topps set, with internal boxes displaying the vintage logos for the Edmonton Oilers, Hartford Whalers, Quebec Nordiques, and Winnipeg Jets. This is the Topps version (English only) rather than the O-Pee-Chee version.
Key Features
Features the original NHL logos for four iconic franchises; Part of the high-demand 1979-80 Topps set that contains the Wayne Gretzky rookie card; Highly collectible for fans of 'defunct' or vintage hockey logos.
Authenticity Indicators
Authenticity Confidence: High. The card stock shows the correct grey fiber typical of late 70s Topps production. The print dots (halftone) in the blue border and the NHL shield are consistent with authentic vintage lithography. This card is rarely counterfeited compared to the #18 Gretzky in the same set.
Flaws to Note
The centering is shifted toward the bottom-right (roughly 70/30). Visible corner wear can be seen on the bottom left and top left corners. Slight edge chipping is present along the left side. No major creases are visible, but the surface appears slightly dull due to typical age-related oxidation of the card stock.
Selling Guide
Where to Sell
eBay is the best platform for this card as a raw listing. For a graded version, COMC or MySlabs would also be appropriate. Local card shows in hockey-centric markets (Canada or Northeast US) would also see quick interest.
Selling Tips
Do not grade this card unless you believe it can achieve a PSA 7 or higher; the grading fees will likely exceed the value of a PSA 5 or 6. When listing, use keywords like 'WHA Merger,' 'Defunct Logos,' and 'Edmonton Oilers' to attract team-specific collectors. Use a crystal clear scanner for photos to show the corners and centering properly.
