Description
This is a 1997 Topps Willie Mays Commemorative Reprint card, modeled after his iconic 1952 Topps design. The front features the classic hand-colored photograph of 'The Say Hey Kid' in his New York Giants uniform, complete with the blue nameplate and facsimile signature. A gold foil 'Willie Mays Topps Commemorative Reprint' logo is embossed in the upper right corner to distinguish it from the original 1952 issue.
Key Features
Features the legendary Hall of Famer Willie Mays; mimics the design of one of the most famous baseball cards in history (1952 Topps #261); officially licensed commemorative gold foil stamp.
Authenticity Indicators
High confidence. The gold foil stamp in the upper right is the primary indicator of the 1997 reprint. The card stock is mid-90s glossier white compared to the grainy, gray cardboard of the 1950s. The back (not pictured) would contain the original 1952 statistics alongside a 1997 copyright date.
Flaws to Note
Minor corner softening on the top right and bottom right corners; slight edge wear along the bottom; centering is roughly 60/40 toward the bottom left.
Selling Guide
Where to Sell
eBay (best for quick sale), COMC (best for small-value consignments), or as part of a lot in Facebook trading groups.
Selling Tips
Due to the low raw value, grading this card is not recommended unless it is a guaranteed PSA 10 candidate, as grading fees will exceed the card's value. List as a '1952 Topps Style Reprint' to capture search traffic for the design.
